Hi! We are HATCH Workshop, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in downtown Stockton that offers training and education in fine craft, design, and artistic entrepreneurship for the Stockton community. In addition to offering hands-on, workshops for all-ages in woodworking, metalworking, ceramics and digital fabrication, HATCH also operates as a communal makerspace where artists and makers can enroll in our affordable membership program for full access to our machinery, equipment, tools, and work spaces necessary to create.
HATCH Workshop is moving locations this summer and we are looking to the support of our community to help us raise $30,000 for our relocation and grand re-opening!
HATCH Workshop was founded on the realization that there is a need to support creative individuals and remove the barriers that stand in the way of thriving creative communities (i.e. lack of shop and art classes in schools, expensive machinery & space costs, little entrepreneurial resources for creative businesses).
We aim to stimulate and inspire the City of Stockton by providing the community with experiential workforce development opportunities that ultimately foster a connection between art, local culture, entrepreneurship, and commerce. AND….WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are seeking additional financial support to facilitate a rapid relocation and expand our arts education programs. Donated funds will go towards improvements such as: running electricity to individual machines, building out individual shop space and private studio rentals, purchasing additional sets of power and hand tools, and acquiring laptops to enable classes in computer-aided design & digital fabrication. Keep reading to see our full budget!
Why We Are Moving
With a long-term machinery loan from San Joaquin County Office of Education, a generous 18 months of free lease from local development company Ten Space, and several awarded grants, HATCH Workshop established its first space in 2017 at 33 N. Aurora Street in Downtown Stockton. Our team then spent a year developing our programs, building out the space, establishing its nonprofit status, and building a rapport within the Stockton community.
Following the 18-months at the initial space, we intended to enter into a long term lease, however a variety of factors contributed into a decision to move. In order to ensure our organization’s long term operational and financial sustainability, HATCH decided to look for a new, smaller space and refocus its efforts on arts education and affordable workshop access (as opposed to the live/work affordable living spaces that were apart of HATCH’s initial vision). After extensively searching for the best facility to meet HATCH’s needs, HATCH has finally found a location that supports its mission and we look forward to opening our doors early this fall!
Our New Location
HATCH’s new location at 40 S Union Street offers 7,500 square feet of warehouse space to house its woodshop, metalshop, ceramics studio, digital fabrication lab, private studios, communal workspaces, public storefront, and gallery space. With 30,000 square feet in gated lot space, Hatch is able to provide onsite parking, outdoor workspaces, a community garden, recycled material storage, large community events, and more! Check out HATCH’s floorplan in our campaign photos for an overview of how HATCH will utilize all this space!
