There is nothing like the look on a mother's face when she enters her local food pantry to get nourishment for her children and she sees fresh-from-the-farm fruits and vegetables. Extremely grateful for the pantry's support, she's used to primarily getting non-perishable processed food. The fresh produce fills her heart with joy and gratitude that she will be able to prepare flavorful dishes that are full of nutrition for her family this week.
Through the Foodshed Alliance’s LocalShare program, local New Jersey farms and volunteer “gleaners” make it possible for food pantry clients to have fresh fruits and vegetables this holiday season. So far this year, we’ve harvested and delivered more than 71,000 lbs. of fresh food to feed those in need. This food would otherwise have gone to waste.
This Thanksgiving season, as we all prepare to gather around our tables of abundance with family and friends to show gratitude for all that we have, please donate to our “Harvest for Hunger” campaign. Your support will allow us to continue to gas up the delivery trucks and pay for all the associated costs to operate the program, as well as other programs supporting sustainable agriculture in New Jersey.
