Sofia is 10 years old. When she was only three, one of WPP’s traveling teams discovered Sofia during a Clinic Evaluation Day in her home country of Honduras. She was diagnosed with Apert Syndrome, which causes premature fusion of the skull, finger, and toe bones. Sofia’s hands were completely clubbed, and her feet and skull bones were also fused together. She lacked access to the care she desperately needed, but thanks to WPP’s U.S. Referral Program, Sofia and her mom were able to come to Richmond, Virginia the very next fall. Seven years later, she has received several surgeries to correct her hands, feet, and skull, but this little fighter has kept her spirits up and a smile on her face through it all.
Your support can help Sofia, and thousands of children like her, receive the specialized care she needs to survive and thrive. A gift to WPP is truly the gift of a lifetime to many of these children who have no other options, and your compassion and generosity can give them a future.
WPP’s mission is to heal critically ill children and build healthcare capacity in the world. Since forming in 2001, WPP has served over 14,000 children in 14 partner countries. Every $1 given to WPP is mobilized five times thanks to the support of in kind donations from medical volunteers, suppliers, and facilities. Join WPP today to make a real difference for these precious kids: Heal a Child… Change the World.
The student campaign at Harvard recognizes not only the immense impact World Pediatric Project has on children, but it also seeks to empower children throughout the world just like Sofia through WPP's focus on healing and building. Having the opportunity to touch the lives of children like Sofia has become our driving force and mission. By donating and helping us meet our goal, you would not only be helping heal young fighters like Sofia, but you would also be irreversibly changing the lives of those children who would otherwise be unable to have access to the medical resources needed for their recovery.
