Well, this is something I never thought I'd be doing (again). Even though I'm never "in it to win it" as they say, I love running races, especially when they are for a fantastic cause. For those of you who don't know, in December, I had surgery on my ankle following a roller derby injury. Now, 7 screws and a metal plate later, I am finally ready to get back in the saddle. Running is something that has always given me a sense of peace that I can't seem to find anywhere else. It is calming and grounding. Being able to do this Love Run after three months of bed rest and boredom (and packing on 15 extra pounds) means more to me than I can explain.
However, more important than any of my narcissistic reasoning is the fact that I get to raise money for cancer research at the same time. So many people are touched by this disease in some way or another and having the opportunity to help find a cure is an absolute pleasure; I could not think of a better reason to run. I am grateful to finally be physically and mentally capable of participating.
Thank you for any help and support you are willing to give. Wish me luck!
