For years and years, I've dreamed of running the Boston Marathon. I love what this event stands for, and I know that I want to make my run bigger than just a celebration of running; I am choosing to raise money for two funds at Temple Beth Elohim that I care deeply about.
The first fund is the TBE Youth Engagement Fund. This fund provides scholarships for summer camps and other extended experiences to youth in our community with financial need. This is really personally meaningful to me, as I was once one of the teens who needed extra support in order to attend life-changing programs. I wouldn't be doing the work I do without the incredible experiences that I was able to have. I've spent the last two years raising money for this fund as the race director of the TBE Dreidel Dash 5K, and I'm hoping to continue raising funds so that every child or teen feels included and able to follow their dreams.
The second fund is the Mike Oshins Memorial Fund. Mike Oshins was an incredible example of what it means to truly be a mensch. He showed kindness and warmth to everyone he encountered. Mike taught and lived hospitality, and welcomed me into the Oshins-Kur home for countless holidays and gatherings any time Brendan and I needed a "Boston family". This fund, I know, will honor his legacy -- creating ways to be welcoming, warm, and inclusive in our community for years to come. I am running this race in memory of Mike, and in honor of his incredible family.
Thank you for supporting my run, and for giving meaning to my miles!
