Hannah Meyer, an A Long Swim sponsored athlete, has pledged to swim 50 miles for ALS research. To support Hannah and A Long Swim please consider donating. Please note that if you are pledging an amount for each mile, multiple that number for 50. Example: $2 pledge per mile would be a $100 donation.
"Being a sponsored marathon swimmer for A Long Swim has been and continues to be one of the most rewarding, challenging and exciting experiences in my life.
Each year, A Long Swim hosts open water swim events where the entry fees from those events helps to support the research that the organization is funding. This year, those events won't be possible. This pandemic has impacted us all uniquely - the world went into quarantine, this disease has not. Every single day Lou Gehrig's disease takes another life.
Every day more people are handed their death sentence, which is an ALS diagnosis. There is yet to be a survivor of this deadly disease. We will swim and we will fight until we meet the first survivor, but until then we will do everything we can to support the ground breaking research that is happening at Northwestern University Medical Center.
I understand that not everyone can swim and most of you in Chicago are lacking a place to swim. So in the month of June I am pledging to swim for all of you. I will swim 50 Ocean miles in the month of June in the name of A Long Swim Organization. I ask that you consider pledging with me by donating $2 for every mile that I swim.
Anything you can give will help, even if it's only 10 cents per mile. All of my swims will be tracked via the Strava app and I will post each swim via my Instagram account. I invite you to follow my progress and share my story.
Remember, the world may have come to a halt, but this disease has not. Help us in supporting the impactful researchers that are working tirelessly to find a cure. I'm swimming 50 miles to help find the cure, will you take this pledge with me?
- Hannah Meyer"
