100% of funds raised at the Boston Marathon will go directly to orphan care and orphan prevention in Ethiopia. In a country of 4-5 million orphans, with 60,000 children living on the streets in the capital city alone, and more than half of the country under the age of 18, Ethiopia is in great need of support to care for their next generation.
A cause dear to the founders' hearts after adopting their four daughters from Ethiopia, Ryan and Sara have spent a lot of time in Ethiopia the past few years assessing the organizations making the most impact. Funds will go towards micro-lending, so that families can support their children by starting a small business. They will also go towards caring for orphaned children with housing, food, medical, and school fees and supplies. This year, Steps has funded an orphanage in Addis Ababa as well as an after-school feeding, mentoring, and education program for at-risk orphaned youth in Legetafo, Ethiopia.
The Hall Steps Foundation has also been starting clean water projects in Ethiopia to prevent disease (extending life expectancy 20 years!) and allow children to go to school instead of walking long distances to fetch water.
Thank you for partnering with us to bring a better future to children in Ethiopia!
