I run for my physical and mental well-being, especially now that I am raising an energetic toddler. I feel fortunate when I lace up my running shoes and hear my feet hit the pavement, yet I know somewhere a veteran might not be able to run and is struggling to get through tough times, find a job, adjust to civilian life, and/or deal with their wounds - some visible and others not.
As the proud daughter of a veteran (as well as granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend), and with Veterans Day on the horizon, I'm running a half marathon to raise support and funds for our veterans! I know firsthand the importance of taking care of our heroes, and am asking you to help me to reach my goal of $500. Your donation made via this platform will go in support of Wounded Warrior Project®. (Please feel free to donate until 11/12/2018 when Veterans Day will be observed.) Thank you!
From the WWP website: "Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) strives to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history. Our purpose is to raise awareness about the needs of injured veterans, while providing unique programs and services that aid in the rehabilitation of our nation’s wounded heroes. WWP takes a holistic approach when serving warriors and their families to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement."
For those who don't know, approximately more than 52,000 servicemen and women were physically injured in recent military conflicts; 500,000 live with invisible wounds ranging from depression to post-traumatic stress disorder; and 320,000 experienced debilitating brain trauma. It's important that we do our part to help those who gave their everything in service to this country.
To all our veterans, thank you for your service to this country, and, in particular, Dad, thank you for your 23+ years of service in the USAF!
