In 1986 our grandfather, Harold McKamish, started an orphanage in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico, one of the poorest cities in the country. From that orphanage came a boys home, a bible school, a church and a center for the blind. Today, Harold sits on the Board of Directors and at 87 years old has dedicated the latter part of his life to serving the people of Mexico and carrying out the Lord's work by preaching the gospel. Volunteers from around the country including groups from churches, college students and trade union workers travel to Caring Hearts to volunteer their time and touch the lives of the people of San Luis. Donations to Caring Hearts go toward housing and feeding the children, supporting the church, helping men with addiction recover and much more.
Running the half marathon is no easy task, but it is made easier when running for people less fortunate and for a cause that is near and dear to the McKamish family.
