Habitat for Humanity of Stillwater has built nearly 40 homes in our community. We partner with low income families to construct modest homes and provide zero interest mortgages that build stability, safety and self-reliance. Habitat homeowners enjoy better health, lower utility bills and improved educational outcomes for children in the home. Our newest partners are a young family of five with 4 school aged children. Their utility bills in a very old & poorly managed rental home are sometimes as high as their rent! With a working parent and 4 children trying to manage virtual learning, it's clear that a safe and reliable home during this season is more important than ever.
We currently have an unoccupied Habitat home that the owner sold back due to an out-of-state move. While this home has been lovingly cared for, it has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom - too small for our partner family. If we reach our $30,000 goal, we can build a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom addition to make this house a secure and permenant family home for this family. This means a safe backyard for a dog (the kid's request!) and a dedicated bedroom for each of the older children. It means a dining room to share meals and do schoolwork. It means $ leftover for T-ball uniforms after the utility bill is paid. It means a forever home. It's why we need your help.
COVID-19 disrupted our ReStore operations - our biggest source of fundraising . Quarrantine also meant cancelling our spring fundraiser. Because of these setbacks, we are asking our community to join us in investing in this project. Stillwater is an amazing college town but the University also drives rental prices much higher than most communities it's size. It's tough for low wage families to keep up. This is where Habitat comes in. We fill the gap with affordable housing and manageable loans that get people out of debt and on a strong financial footing. We re-invest every dollar from our mortgage payments back into more quality housing. Giving to Habitat is a sound investment in poverty reduction, financial freedom and community development. Please help us make a big impact on this family and on our small town!
