Habitat for Humanity HiawathaLand is celebrating our 25th Anniversary in 2020. The year started out on a very positive note. We had more volunteer groups than ever before scheduled to work with us this year. We found a military family to partner with for a rehab we were finishing, and they are now enjoying their new home. We found another family to partner with on new construction to begin this year. We received funding to build a much needed garage to store our building materials and tools. And, we finally paid off a large debt that we had been working to pay off for several years.
Then, our roof began to leak.... a lot! It had already been patched and patches weren't going to work anymore. We received bids from three contracors and signed a contract. It was apparent that our roof needed be replaced as soon as possible. We were just waiting for the last of the snow to melt from the roof.
We had a funding plan, until the COVID-19 Pandemic wiped out everything we had been planning for the past several months. Several of our spring and early summer groups have had to be cancelled. Some of our fundraisers have been cancelled. Our ReStore has been closed for more than a month. We have had to postpone our new construction until next year. And, our roofing contractor is unable to work during this shutdown. The revenue we have lost will not be able to be recouped and we don't know how much longer this pandemic will continue to affect us.
We looked for available resources to help us through these troubling times, but many funding sources are depleted before applications can even be processed. We have gone through challenging times over the years, and will get through this too, but we desperately need your help.
We have spent 25 years building and repairing homes for others. This new roof will not only preserve our building, but it will allow us to continue to provide a safe, clean environment in our Volunteer Center for all of the individuals who travel from across the U.S. to serve the people in our community each year.
Please help us in any way you can! All donations will help. Sharing this on social media only takes a moment and may connect us with many more supporters. Raising $63,000 will not be easy, but with your help we are confident this will be a successful fundraiser. Please keep in mind, donations are tax deductible. Thank you!!
