In 2018, after moving to a quaint little town in the mountains of Colorado, it was realized that there was no recycling available nearby. When looking into the possibilities of recycling, the locals in the community had to take all of thier recycling to a center at least 35 miles away and pay per bag to recycle. Pay to recycle?? Really. This is ridiculous. I can see if someone was driving to pick it up for you, but to have to pay when you drive over 30 miles, I don't think so.
After purchasing a local business in town, it was decided through the business to pursue a solution for our quaint little community so people wouldn't have to drive and pay to recycle thier goods. Our communtiy members are very passionate about recycling and reuse, and being responsible humans on our planet. One day while searching for recycling solutions, a recycling trailer came up that was for sale in another state. This was the solution..instantly a jar was put out for donations, a Go Fund Me page was created and shared on the business page, and the business put a $1000 down payment on the trailer with the company. Over the next few months, enough money was raised to purchase the trailer AND have it brought to Colorado.
The trailer has been in use for almost a year now. The business has worked with surrounding area recycling facilities to be able to dump the recycling on a weekly basis in thier local sorting facilities without charge. The business has paid for fuel, time to empty the trailer weekly, and 2x a week in the summer, Registration, Vehicle Maintenance, etc. There is no charge for anyone putting recycling materials in the trailer. Over the course of the year, we have received non-profit status in the hopes that the program can be made self sustainable, as well as possibly create at least 1-2 jobs for people a couple days a week. We are looking to purchase a couple of small out buildings to store materials, recycling goods, and additional bins for our wonderful trailer.
