The United Methodist Church of Pella (Pella, Iowa) wants to help 2 families in need in Guatemala by building homes with the organization ImagininGuatemala. 15 church members will be heading to Guatemala, July 3-10, 2021, and we are raising funds to help with travel expenses and building materials.
This work is of particular importance now, given the COVID-19 outbreak. Many ImagininGuatemala service teams have had to cancel during the last year due to the health crisis. That means that many needy families have not received a home. "Yesterday, Edy had to make a difficult phone call to Sandy Hernandez. Sandy is a single mom with a little two-year-old boy... 'This family is currently living in a room that is made of sheet metal...' Without the resources from a service team, Sandy will have to wait for a house." The homes we hope to build will provide the families with safe, dry, sturdy places to live.
$1000 per person will pay for building supplies as well as our lodging, food, and transportation within Guatemala. Please consider helping us with this endeavor. We also ask for your prayers for safe travel, for the successful work of ImagininGuatemala, and for the well-being of the families we will be serving. Isaiah 6:8 states, "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'"
