Parent Trap & Archer Lane 3.06 miles MERA Loop (part) + Upper Hot Shot 1.33 miles
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have Nordic ski trails only 5 miles from the center of La Grande? And what if you could run on trails in MERA year round? Or imagine riding your fat bike as its meant to be ridden, not slogging through powder but floating over packed trails.
With the purchase of a Snowdog track sled, our volunteers will be able to groom trails in MERA for fat biking, Nordic skiing, hiking, and trail running.
Some of you may recall that last year we tried to keep Parent Trap groomed using human power. While that sort of worked, it took days of stomping and left our volunteers too tired to enjoy the trail. Using a Snowdog, we'll be able to groom that same trail in an hour. We'll also be able to groom so much more.
As an added bonus, Snowdogs also run on dirt and are capable of being used on trail days to assist in hauling tools and equipment to build sites. With it we can also move logs and rocks when clearing deadfall or building new trails! So not only will this support new winter recreation in MERA, it'll help us out year round.
If you'd like better access to winter recreation closer to home, please consider chipping in so we can purchase the Snowdog and grooming attachments. We’re hoping to raise 50% of the costs so we don’t come up short for other projects in 2021. If each of our members contributes $15, we will easily hit that goal.
Initial Grooming Plan
To make sure we do it right, we plan to slowly expand the number of groomed trails.
Phase 1: Parent Trap & Archer Lane (3.06 miles)
Phase 2: MERA Loop (part) + Upper Hot Shot (1.33 miles)
Phase 3: Slammer & Zig Zag, or Igo Extension for more skiing, or Owsley Extension out to Sasquatch???
The posibilities are endless. We'd love to hear your ideas on where we should groom! And if you'd like to become one of our groomers, get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org.
