This run and fundraiser is in memory of Andrea Beidelman, and in honor of Amy Helliwell.
Andrea passed away from Brain Cancer February 8th, 2016. She is the wife of my best friend, Kerry Beidelman (not sure Kerry wants that connection, lol) and the mother of 2 wonderful young ladies...Casey and Clare. I began coaching Casey and Clare in soccer when they were 8 and coached them until they graduated high school. I watched them grow from funny, tiny twins (who I could never tell apart) to pre-teens (an Uncle/Neice type relationship), to young ladies (pretty close to having 2 more daugthers), and now they are my great friends.
Andrea's legacy on this earth are Casey and Clare and she left an amazing legacy. I don't know where I would be without Andrea's impact on my life and my friendship with she, Kerry, and the twins. Andrea is remembered so much for her smile and love of life and her faith and that shows in her children.
Amy is the Women's Head Soccer Coach at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. My second daughter, Jessica, has always acted like an engineer and the campus and size of Rose Hulman was perfect. We also found a great fit for Jessica to continue her soccer career. I met Amy on the soccer pitch at some tournament somewhere. They all kind of run together. I didn't know Amy's full story with her battle with brain cancer, but everytime we met, she was smiling. There were some REALLY tough times through there but she was always smiling.
My time with Amy has always been through soccer and we have become very good friends. She does a remarkable job leading the Rose Hulman Soccer team. This is Jessica's senior year and every year, Rose Hulman has a 'Grey Matters Awareness' game to raise awareness of brain cancer and funds to battle brain cancer.
The 2019 game is Sept. 14th at Rose Hulman. My goal is $5,000 as I run 66 miles from the Circle in downtown Indianapolis to Rose Hulman on Sept 14th and arrive a bit before game time to present Amy with the grand total donated in memory of Andrea and in Honor of Amy.
There are many ways to give. Donating $$ is great and if you can make the drive, a huge crowd at the game means the world to Amy and the players. Donating AND attending is even better!!! Please give what you can. A flat amount is great, a 'per mile' amount is sort of creative, and any amount is needed and appreciated. If you know Jessica or me or my family, or just love sports, come to the game and cheer on the Fighting Engineers!! I know a great pizza place for before or after the game.
Both Andrea and Amy have made a great impact on our world. I want this year's Grey Matters Awareness game to have a great impact on Amy and her family, Andrea and her family, the Rose Hulman and Terre Haute community, and to help those suffering from Brain Cancer.
