Every year I relay in honor of my daughter Gretchen Mitchell Anderson. In May of 2013 Gretchen went to the hospital for a headache that was different from any other. Before the day was over she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had brain surgery the next day. She was ultimately diagnosed with brain cancer and went thru radiation and chemotherapy. Throughout her fight with this horrible disease her faith never wavered and she always kept a positive outlook. In April of 2015 after being off chemo for a few months the cancer had returned. Gretchen had an second brain surgery but due to many complications and failed treatments in the following months she did not survive and passed on July 7, 2015. The loss of a loving mother, daughter, sister and aunt was crushing to everyone that knew and loved her. I made a promise to Gretchen that I would do everything in my power to raise funds for a cure so that other families did not have to lose their loved ones. Gretchen was a big supporter of Relay for Life and participated in Jet Drag in May of 2014, as well as other fundraising activities that supported finding a cure. It is my honor as her mother to tell her story and leave a lasting legacy for her two daughters Mylee and Sophia.
