Green Living Science is excited to continue our work in Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD)! Our educators have been presenting all school assemblies and in-class lessons within the district to teach about recycling and natural resources. We have reached over 100,000 youth since we started.
Over the years, we’ve expanded our offerings to include educational programs, recycling programs, field trips and tours. We’ve also increased the scope of our constituents to include educators, workplaces, local communities and other groups.
GLS always has and will view education as our primary mission, whether that is providing education to school children, businesses, community members or professional development to other educators.
We pride ourselves for working hand in hand with like-minded teachers and schools, offering educational programs, recycling programs and field trips, which are integrated to meet specific needs and opportunities. GLS’ school program are offered free to Detroit students and teachers.
With your support to reach our goal of $5,000, Green Living Science can provide 20 pre-kindergarten lessons to DPSCD classrooms. During the 2018-19 school year Green Living Science provided 13 classrooms with a series of lessons where students discover real life applications to reduce their dependence on the environment. Each lesson in the series is 30 minutes long and introduces young learners to environmental concepts such as conservation. Lessons encourage students to think differently about the materials they use and discover simple ways to help our planet.
At the end of the lessons students were given their very own copy of Green Living Science's children's book, Georgie's Busy Day: Recycling in his Neighborhood. This story shows students how littering impacts the environment and what they can do to help create a more sustainable community.
