Reflo and members of the GSCM work with five Milwaukee-area schools per year in an intensive, collaborative process to design greener, healthier schoolyards. Since 2015, 21 Milwaukee-area schools have been directly impacted through the Schoolyard Redevelopment program.
Each project is tailored to the specific needs and enthusiasm of the school’s community and shows amazing transformations from grey expanses of asphalt to green, lively schoolyards that help protect the environment and encourage youth to play and learn using curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. The placemaking designs also provide a multitude of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) curricular connections as well as triple-bottom-line (social, environmental, and economic) benefits for the students, school, and community.
Fundraising is currently underway for AAL, Allen-Field, Bay View Montessori, La Escuela Fratney, and North Division High School redevelopment projects. Construction is planned for summer 2021.
Donations directed to support Schoolyard Redevelopment Projects will provide funding for outdoor education supplies, school gardens, recreation, and other site improvements. Select a specific school project to support or make a contribution to support all of the Cohort 3 schools during check out.
