When a child receives medical treatment, parents and families face a previously unimaginable amount of stress. Compounding their concerns are issues both logistical and financial: Where will we stay? How much will it cost? How close will we be to the hospital? What will our other children do while we meet with medical staff? The Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City alleviates these stressors by providing a place for families to stay while their child is undergoing treatment at local hospitals and clinics. They provide necessities such as linens, towels, and toiletries as well as meals and entertainment. Until a few years ago, I had heard of The Ronald McDonald House without knowing exactly what it did or who it benefited. In 2014, my niece and nephew were born prematurely and my sister-in-law stayed at RMH of Iowa City while they were in the NICU for over 50 days. The Ronald McDonald House was there for their family when they needed it and has since become a special and important place in our broader family. On April 29, I will be running a marathon that will take runners by The Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City. I'm using this race as an opportunity to raise support for a place that supports people during their most challenging moments. I would be very grateful for your help in supporting their mission and the important work they do for children and families. Thank you! PS: today, my niece and nephew are very healthy...and they're just about the best kids you'll ever meet.
