As’salaamu Alaikum and welcome to our Middle School Social Studies Crowdrise page!!
Every day students ask questions about what we’re learning in Social Studies that make ME think--and remind me why I love teaching Social Studies!
“How could they just slaughter all the buffalo? That’s messed up!”
“What is happening with the Uighur Muslims in China?”
“Could the voting age be lowered to 16?”
“What made people start to not treat the Native Americans quite so badly?”
“Why didn’t people care when Italy invaded Ethiopia, but when Hitler invaded Poland it started World War 2?”
Thanks to generous donations from previous years’ Crowdrise campaigns, our Social Studies program has been enhanced through the purchase of class sets of historical fiction books that align with our units of study. These books allow our students to experience history through the perspective of different characters, helping students understand life at that moment in time in a more direct and personal way.
Crowdrise funds have also been used to purchase the Howard Zinn Young People’s History of the U.S. books, which give students a different perspective on history (and several students told me this year that they have this book at home too!! Nice). We have also been able to purchase posters and primary source materials with the donations.
This year, in addition to getting more primary source materials, I would like to purchase an iPad so students can do more video projects, inshaAllah.
And remember, if we collectively meet our school wide goal, our students will also be able to enjoy our new and improved side yard, outdoor sports equipment, and planting beds!!
Please support your child’s education and reach out to family and friends too!
We pray that Allah (swt) accepts your donations as a "sadaqa jariya", a charity that will continuously add to your hasanat every time we use your donated items in class. We pray that Allah (swt) continues to put barakah in your rizq. Ameen.
I would also like to remind you that our school is a non-profit organization, and therefore, all donations are tax-deductible.
Jazak Allah Khair for your generosity.
