Help Us Continue Supporting Our Communities.
The outbreak of COVID-19 in Mississippi has impacted our organization tremendously. While we have slowly reopened our more permanent fundraisers, such as Neat Used Things for Sale and Plaza Bingo, our special fundraising events have looked a little different this year. Some have been postponed, some have gone virtual, and some have been canceled all together.
That being said, Good Sam is still trying to raise funds for the food pantries it helps stock. Proper nutrition is vital to surviving COVID-19, as it is with any virus, and our communities are in need now more than ever.
The Good Samaritan Center is currently assisting families and individuals in the greater Jackson and Laurel areas of Mississippi with food assistance, SNAP applications, and unemployment applications. We are seeing so many people who are struggling with food scarcity and employment for the first time due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
We are also currently partnering with Jackson Housing Authority to assist Delhaven and Golden Key Senior Apartment residents. Over the past few months, we have encountered many seniors that may have the financial resources to provide food for themselves, but are too afraid to be out in public. While the number of COVID cases, has seemingly gotten better, we are seeing a surge and its direct effect on our new senior friends in the community.
Additionally, the "Hub for the Hungry" collaboration (a perishable food storage hub for other organizations) powered by Good Sam and Extra Table, has become a major service provided to our community and throughout the state, thanks to KLLM Transport and their temporary donation of a refrigerated truck.
We are serving our communities to the fullest extent possible during these uncertain times! Help us continue our mission of assisting those who need it the most during this crisis!
