On Tuesday, May 4th - Opening Day of the Goochland Farmers Market, we experienced a disaster. We had eight tents set up and saw the storm coming on radar and in the sky, and we had already started to pack up. All tents were weighted down. Suddenly, a 65mph wall of wind came out of nowhere and picked up ALL of the tents and demolished them. Merchandise, tables, tent weights, etc. went flying everywhere. One tent struck our Executive Director, Lisa Dearden, in the head giving her a concussion. Another tent slammed into a car, breaking the window...no one was injured, but a two year old was in the car and there was glass everywhere, including in the child's hair. A customer was dragged by a tent and fell and actually broke her leg!
We have worked really, really hard to build this market up to serve those in our community. There were several vendors there where this was their very first market. After coming out of 2020, none of us can sustain a hit like this.
We are asking for support from our community to help us recover our losses. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated! Funds will go to vendors as well as RVAg (the non-profit that operates the market). Every dollar counts!
Thank you for your support!
