Four years ago I lost my number one supporter, my best friend, and the person I had the privilege of calling my grandmother. I lost her to heart disease, the #1 killer of women. One third of all sisters, aunts, mothers, grandmothers, and friends are affected by cardiovascular disease every year. For those of you who knew my grandmother, Vicki Engleman, she was more than an avid community member and Corydon Central Panthers fan. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother whose life was cut short at the age of 64 because of this horrid disease.
Not a day goes by without a fond memory crossing my mind or a distant sign that reminds me how she’s watching over me. It’s my mission this American Heart Month to honor her, and support women around the nation who are or may be affected by the disease.
This month I’m teaming up with Go Red for Women to raise awareness and money to help fight against heart disease and stroke. Beating heart disease means more time to be moms, sisters, grandparents and friends. Beating cardiovascular disease means more time to be here and be you. Join me in the fight and ignite a sea of red by donating to my page in honor or in memory of loved ones, like my grandmother Ms. Vicki.
Thank you,
Sidney Capelle
