The Gulf Coast Citizen Diplomacy Council is a non-profit connecting Floridians to the world thanks to support from global citizens like you. One of our missions is to spark interest in international affairs and to prepare tomorrow's leaders with the skills they need for success in today's increasingly interconnected world.
In January 2018, we implemented an experiential program for local high school students. Through the Youth Diplomats program, teens explore topics in global affairs & diplomacy once a month while building their leadership & cross-cultural communication skills. The program is student-driven. What started out as a eight-month experiment has grown to a year-long journey of learning & enthusiasm!
In June we took three of our 20 Youth Diplomats to Washington, D.C., on a merit-based trip for a series of meetings and activities at the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Diplomacy Center, Capitol Hill, Georgetown University, and Meridian International. We hope to do the same this summer, coordinating our efforts with a similar program taking place in Chicago. In the meantime, the students are exploring public speaking, Russian culture, facilitation skills, careers with the U.S. Department of State, issues surrounding wildlife trafficking, the situation in Crimea, and media literacy.
Funding for this campaign will focus on:
- Strengthening our library of educational materials for the Youth Diplomats
- Providing need-based scholarships for Youth Diplomats unable to make the student-commitment for the trip to Washington, D.C.
- Engaging the next generation through expanded summer activities focused on deepening students' understanding of the world
Your donation can help make all this possible and is tax-deductible. (Hooray!)
Thank you to Clark Partington for hosting the program this year.
