K.I.D.S. IQ Project is a charitable foundation that has been making strong progress towards a drug treatment for Kleefstra syndrome (KS). KS is a rare genetic condition that involves lifelong intellectual and physical disabilities, including speech impairment, heart defects and seizures.
But you can help!
This October, K.I.D.S. IQ Project is hosting its Third Annual Kleefstra Syndrome Walk & Roll. Anyone in the world can participate by planning a walk in their own community to raise awareness for KS. After selecting a route (up to 5K or 3.1 miles) in your own neighbourhood, you can invite friends, family members and colleagues to support you with a donation and even join you on your walk. On the walk date, participants will walk or "roll" (wheelchair, stroller or cycle!) their way to the finishing point. Proceeds raised will go towards developing a drug to treat KS.
While there is no treatment for KS today, scientists working with K.I.D.S. IQ Project have made significant progress towards improving Kleefstra syndrome patient brain cells. Now, funding remains the biggest barrier as we look to move this ongoing research forward and improve the lives of KS children around the world.
