Six weeks ago, the emergence of a global pandemic invited us to acknowledge our interdependence. Stories of creativity in love amidst the uncertainty of COVID19 momentarily interrupted the narratives of conflict, partisanship and violence.
Today, it seems that the internal, interpersonal, and systemic conflicts that existed before the pandemic are intensifying.
For the last decade, Global Immersion has been training Everyday Peacemakers to navigate fragile moments like these. Yet, the pandemic is shifting how we do our work.
Historically, our trainings have required travel and gathering, neither of which are possible for the foreseeable future. Because we’ve had to cancel or indefinitely postpone most of our 2020 Immersion Trips and in-person trainings, we are projecting a $275,000 loss in revenue this year. We’ve already made hard decisions resulting in the reduction of our annual budget from $600,000 to $400,000. This has included reducing the size of our team, suspending the hiring search for our Director of Operations and pivoting our deliverables.
While the future is uncertain, our team shares two convictions:We will continue to train Everyday Peacemakers and Peacemaking Communities to join God and others in remaking our world.
We will continue to accompany our community as you navigate the pandemic and prepare for what lies beyond it.
Guided by these convictions, we created a 4-part webinar series on navigating the pandemic (password: peacemaking); we’re hosting daily contemplative gatherings to stay grounded and connected; and we’ve launched the weekly series Letters to Peacemakers. In addition to these resources, we are working diligently to provide new platforms for sharing stories of and ideas for peacemaking practice. Stay tuned!
In the months to come, we will be more dependent on the courageous generosity, prayers, and participation of you, our Global Immersion family. We need your ongoing support so that we can continue to offer the tools to transform conflict.
On this #givingtuesdaynow, will you invest in Global Immersion as we contend for the Everyday Peacemakers who are navigating the complexities of COVID19?
Help us meet today’s goal of $1000.
