I’m excited to announce that once again I will be running the Boston Marathon in April 2018 in support of the Glen Doherty Foundation. Glen Doherty, a former Navy SEAL and security operator, was one of four Americans killed in a terror attack in Benghazi, Libya. He died in the attack against the United States Consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 12th, 2012. Although the attack began on September 11th, Glen fought hard throughout the night and saved many before succumbing to a mortar attack in the early hours of September 12th. Glen died serving with men he respected, protecting the freedoms we enjoy as Americans and doing something he loved. He is an American Hero.
Glen believed in education, improving oneself and building skills. He believed life should be earned by hard work and hard play. Celebrate this beautiful world that we live in, recreate as much as humanly possible. Help others, and surround yourself with people that you respect who challenge you and make you a better person. The Foundation’s goal is to pay it forward, to spread Glen’s love and passion for life to as many individuals as possible.
Why am I running for Team GDMF? While I have earned a bib for Boston 2018 through a qualifying time, I’ve decided to run again in support of Team GDMF. Though I did not have the privilege of knowing Glen personally, his message to love life, work hard and play hard :) and has touched my heart. Through my hard work (aka 1,000+miles of training) and hard play (the marathon!!), I hope to pay it forward and raise awareness and funds for this very special foundation.
The Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation has been established to bring education and recreation to those in need. By paying forward Glen's love for learning and his passion for igniting the spirit through adventure, The Foundation aims to bring joy and personal advancement into the lives of many by providing current and former special operations professionals, from all branches of the government, the means necessary to transition and succeed in civilian life. They are also enabling the children and families of these soldiers the ability to mature and grow through recreation. They aspire to meet these goals through the following:
• Scholarships for education or vocational training for Special Operations Professionals
• Subsidies and grants for the children of Special Operations Professionals to attend camps that build leadership
• Gifts for the families of Special Operations Professionals and Foreign Service Officers, where a loss or life-changing debilitating injury has been suffered, to be used for recreation as a way of supporting the family unit through positive outdoor activities

For the 6th consecutive year, Team GDMF is tackling Heartbreak hill to provide scholarships for special operations soldiers, like Glen, and their families.
With gratitude and thanks,
