At Gladney, our mission of Creating Bright Futures Through Adoption is built on a belief that every child deserves a loving and caring family. Every child includes a healthy baby, a medically fragile infant, or a toddler being placed for adoption by their birth mother. Every child includes a child who has experienced loss, abuse, or neglect and is waiting in state foster care or an international orphanage. Every child includes all 32,000 children Gladney has placed with adoptive families since 1887. In 2019 alone, Gladney placed 211 children with adoptive families. Every child needs a place to call home and people to call family. Forever.
A day in the life at Gladney is full of stories, and we wish we could share all of them with you. While they are unique, each one is full and complex, with both brokenness and hope, tears and bright eyes, grief and joy, loneliness and family. We are honored to walk alongside expectant mothers and birth parents, waiting children in state foster care and international orphanages, adoptive families, and adoptees of all ages. They come from all backgrounds yet are forever connected by having adoption as part of their lives.
In one day, we may talk with an expectant mother who found out she is three months pregnant and wants to find out more about adoption, a couple who is eager and excited to start the adoption process, an adoptive family who welcomed their new child into their home this week, an 80-year-old adoptee, and a birth mother who placed her child for adoption 30 years ago. It’s important and necessary for us to be present to continue to serve all our clients as needs arise throughout their lives.
Adoption is a lifelong journey, and we walk with our clients every step of the way. Adoption placement and legal finalization are just the beginning—we consider success to be birth parents, adoptive families, and adult adoptees supported, equipped, and thriving years down the road. We need to be available for years to come — Gladney is Family for Life. Thank you for helping us continue to be present for them.
Gladney's key objectives are to promote and provide the loving option of adoption to well informed expectant mothers who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy; prepare and assist prospective adoptive parents in completing adoption placement of a child into their families; place into a permanent, loving family every child possible whose circumstances require such an opportunity; and be a leading voice and advocate in the field of adoption.
