Gizmo aka Cherry Doll, (her previous name given by Whispurring Hope Rescue), is a bright eyed, longhaired beauty that was rescued in April 2020. She is approximately 9 months old. Our little cherry doll, Gizmo, was initially thought to be missing on November 10th and a search was organized in the neighborhood. However, she was discovered in the house the next morning hiding, gravely ill and rushed to the vet for care. Gizmo had accidentally ingested a liquid cleaning disinfectant that was broken open in our storage room and she has been under constant care ever since to heal her chemical burns caused by the caustic chemicals. She was initially treated with charcoal and anti-seizure meds by our vet and was very ill, but she made it through. The caustic chemicals burned her mouth, throat, esophagus and lungs. Although fragile, she was well enough to go home November 12th and continued to be given antibiotics. Days later, she developed a cough that was thought to be an irritated larynx from the burn. Over the past few weeks, the cough progressed into wet sounding coughs, gurgling and a struggle to breathe. Cherry Doll's loving parents continued treatment at home consisting of antibiotic injections and oral meds as directed by our vet. She was placed on oxygen to help her labored breathing. She even struggled to eat and drink. Nothing seemed to help relieve her symptoms or improve her breathing, so she was given a nebulizer breathing machine to inhale medication multiple times a day. On January 19th, her struggle to breathe had become so extremely labored that she was taken to the Blue Pearl Emergency animal hospital in Cedar Rapids. She is currently in an oxygen incubator and receiving IV medication by a specialist. After the hospital spoke with poison control and a toxicologist it is believed that Gizmo has a chance to heal from all the inflammation and damage. However, Whispurring Hope Rescue cannot afford her full stay and we desperately need your help so our precious doll can have a second chance. The hospital says if she can stay under their care and begins to improves, she can be sent home at some point to continue her healing process. These critical care emergency hospitals put their all into saving precious lives, 24/7, 7 days a week 365 days a year and it is very expensive but who has the right to end a life when Hope is near? Gizmo/Cherry Doll is in very critical condition at this time and we are very stressed over our love for her, her absolute comfort, and the extreme bill that will be placed on us and the rescue without your help. Please help us to help her live. Our prescious girl deserves a chance she is only a baby.
