#GivingTuesdayNow Match Program #SecondHandPawsNeedsYourHelp Tuesday, May 5, 2020 is declared #GivingTuesdayNow. GoFundMe Charity is matching non-profit organizations that raise $1,000 by Tuesday, May 5, 2020.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Second Hand Paws, is facing the most unprecedented economic challenge of their time. Now, more than ever, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Second Hand Paws is a non-profit rescue whose mission is to provide foster homes and medical care to stray, abandoned, injured, and surrendered animals until a suitable forever home can be found. To provide assistance to prevent overpopulation through spay and neuter programs. To provide homeless pets with the training they need to be successful and live a happy and full life.
Even before this pandemic, we would get calls to come get abandoned dogs and puppies left along the roadside, on porches, chained up and uncared for. Sadly, we rescue dogs from abusive situations, i.e., front legs broken; having been choked and kicked – awful things! We are often called to hoarder situations where their care is jeopardized because of someone’s actions – no fault of their own. Being rescued from these situations most times gives them a fighting chance.
Adding COVID-19 to all this, has hurt our mission in so many ways. The virus has halted the multiple adoption events we hold each month which results in finding good homes for our dogs. These adoptions change not only the life of the dog, but also its new family. It is at these events, that we also receive donations which we heavily rely on! The donations we receive help fund taking care of sick and injured dogs that we take into our rescue.
Because of COVID-19, veterinarian offices are limiting their appointments to emergency situations only right now. Shelters have been closed to the public, no adoptions are taking place and they will not take in animals at this time. With veterinarian offices being open for emergencies only, we do not have access to spay/neuter appointments which has limited our ability to get these dogs help or adopted from our rescue because they are not yet spayed or neutered.
COVID-19 has also affected families with dogs. With so many people being out of work due the virus, we are experiencing a big increase in owners that can no longer feed/take care of their pets. People are reaching out to us for financial help for food and veterinarian care. There has been an increase in the number of dogs (adults and puppies) that are being dropped off on the side of the road because shelters are closed and their owners can no longer afford to care for them.
It is heart wrenching to think about how many animals have become homeless or have died because of this pandemic. All of these things will also result in an increase in the animal population. We need to protect them – they can not do it themselves!
HERE’s HOW YOU CAN HELP! Make a donation to our GoFundMe account no later than Tuesday, May 5, 2020. If we raise $1,000 by that time, we may be eligible to receive an additional $1,000 grant from GoFundMe Charities. That would mean $2,000 for Second Hand Paws! EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS….PLEASE HELP!
