Urban Nature Partners PDX empowers 4th-8th grade youth from historically marginalized Portland communities through long term mentoring relationships and access to meaningful outdoor experiences. Our program is designed to build comfort and belonging, outdoor knowledge and competencies, and leadership potential as youth grow.
The smiling faces on our photos represent 46 enrolled youth from 36 families and hundreds more siblings, friends, and children from partner organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters who have joined us for group outings since 2016. Since our founding, we’ve spent over 2,000 hours outdoors each year, and our youth are provided with all necessary gear, supplies, and transportation. Our amazing youth go on weekly one-on-one mentor-youth outings in neighborhood greenspaces, family inclusive group events offered 18 times per year, nature based summer camps with partners, and leadership opportunities guided by their interests and strengths.
While we currently cannot meet with mentees in person outdoors, we have pivoted to connecting families with basic resources, and youth with at-home activities and creative connections to their mentors, in order to then be able to support mental health and relationships in these unprecedented times.
This year we have experienced a loss of revenue from placemaking grants having been redirected to front line response efforts, as well as small businesses who have supported our mission through sponsorship and campaigns that are struggling to survive themselves now.
This fund is to help support our program during these trying times. As the COVID-19 situation continues taking a toll on our communities, we anticipate the inequities to deepen, and the demand for services of programs like Urban Nature Partners PDX to increase.
Please consider a gift of any amount to help support our youth and their families now and into the future, and return to normal operations when this is over.
>>>>GoFundMe generously matches up to $1,000 in donations made this GivingTuesday, May 5th, from 10 or more donors on this page. <<< The total of $2,000 raised on this day would help support our new Spanish speaking assistant in providing direct outreach to our families most in need, keep the lights on at our office until we can work there again, and pay for background checks for potential new mentors preparing to meet new incoming youth as soon as we are able!
