As shelters across Los Angeles have been closed for months due to the pandemic, we have been providing emergency care for cats and kittens. We are kindly requesting donations to help us provide and care for cats and newborn kittens.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, shelters and veterinary offices across the country are closed or are running at limited capacity. Because of this, ACR had to take on a greater portion of the work to support feral cats on the streets by providing medication, spay/neuter procedures, and much more.
Neonates are unable to regulate body temperature and thus need a constant heat source, which sometimes requires the use of incubators. Incubators provide a safe and stable environment with regulated temperature and humidity to help them grow healthy and strong. They also have the ability to provide supportive care including oxygen and nebulizers for sick kittens. With the growing number of neonates rescued off the streets, we need your help to continue to provide them the best care possible.
Don't forget the mothers! - One of the populations that has stuck out the most during the COVD closures is mother cats! They are not able to receive the specific care they deserve. This causes not only mom's life to be at risk, but her babies' lives to be at risk as well. Often times, well-meaning rescuers will rescue a litter of kittens without going back to trap the mother. Although people tend to be drawn to kittens because they seem the most helpless, free-roaming adult cats are just as deserving of quality treatment and care. Additionally, once the mother is spayed and released, she will no longer contribute to the vast overpopulation of stray and feral cats.
We must care for ALL cats, including kittens AND mother cats. This is how our line of work comes full circle.
We are in desperate need for four (4) incubators to help us care for these newborn kittens. The remainder of these funds will go towards oxygen, nebulizers, miscellaneous items, and of course veterinary care for newborns and kittens including but not limited to vaccinations, spay/neuter services, antibiotics, and deworming medication. We are in desperate need of:
Four (4) incubators
Incubator blankets, pads, and cushions
Incubator filters and tubing
Sanitizing disinfectant cleaners
Kitten Milk Replacement
Alley Cat Rescue (ACR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization leading the way in promoting humane, nonlethal, and compassionate care for ALL cats. ACR’s programs assist individuals who help cats nationwide by providing resources, locating free and low cost spay/neuter programs, assisting with cat behavioral problems to keep cats in their homes, promoting a better understanding of feline diseases as well as programs and information to keep cats out of the shelter system, such as neuter-before-adoption, early age spay/neuter, Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), and the Feral Fix Challenge for veterinarians. We also have two adoption sites in Los Angeles and manage a working cat program.
