This #GivingTuesday help us with a much-needed upgrade to our facility!
Can you believe it, it's been two years since we first opened our doors as New Jersey's first nonprofit cat cafe & cage-free adoption center? It would be an understatement to say that when we started, we didn't exactly know what we were in for, but through the support of the fantastic community of fellow cat lovers, we have grown and learned so much in such a short time.
Since opening our doors on September 9th, 2017, we have been able to save the lives of and place in good loving homes, 500 cats and kittens. August of 2019, we had our busiest and most successful month yet. In August alone, we placed 34 cats in wonderful homes and took in close to 50 cats, most from very dire situations. Not only that, but we surpassed our goal of exceeding 2018's adoption numbers in only the first eight months of 2019.
As you can see, we are growing. We have proven that our model works and saves lives daily. When we started, our goal was to always have 15-20 cats in the cafe at any given time and to focus on adult cats. But as we grew and the more we did, the more we have been asked to do. Not a day goes by that we do not receive a call or email from an individual or another rescue organization looking for help, and we always try to say yes. Because of this, we now average 30+ cats at a time at the cafe. Not only that, but we have now expanded to kittens. Just this summer alone, we have taken in close to 50 kittens ranging from 2 weeks old to 2 months. Many of these kittens were trapped by us and then put into foster homes until old enough for adoption. And while rescuing kittens, we were able to TNR many feral momma cats to ensure no more babies will be had. Needless to say, we have been swamped, but we couldn't be happier with how much of a difference we have been able to make thanks in no small part to you, our supporters.
Now, this is where we need your help. We have reached a point where we were limited in how much more we can expand our mission. We would have never dreamed we would have grown this quickly and have been able to help as many cats as we have. Unfortunately, our space was not designed or intended to do the amount or level of rescue work we now do. What we now need desperately is to upgrade our facility. We have been working with many of our colleagues on improving our "back of house" by adding professional shelter grade CAT CONDOS.
These condos will provide us with a significant upgrade in so many areas. Including, but not limited to.
· Proper, clean, and comfortable place to house sick cats and kittens recovering from surgeries.
· Quiet and safe acclimation space for new arrivals that do not adjust to cage-free café life right away. This prevents hiding of shy cats and increases our volunteer's ability to work with "hard to adopt" cats. (Although we often take on cats who are under socialized and have an excellent track record of working with cats who are considered "unadoptable" and getting them adopted due in large part to our cage-free facility. Sometimes cats who come to us from a life of living in a cage need a place that is in between. These condos will help us acclimate these cats so much faster. Mr. Kittles arrived from Hurricane Irma (in September of 2017) and was, understandably, extremely stressed and confused when he first came. Over time Kittles became the sweetest boy ever, but unfortunately, we lack the proper space to help cats like him feel more comfortable when they don't adjust at first. (follow him on Instagram! @mewsandkittles)
· Reduction of stress and a dramatic decrease in the spread of URI. Which, in turn, will cut our vet bills significantly (One of our highest monthly costs are vet bills due to spreading URIs. Being able to have a proper space to isolate cats and kittens coming down with colds will not only help get these sick kitties feeling better quicker, but also help stop the spread. Which in turn, will drastically cut down on trips to the vet)
· Space for nursing momma cats to safely raise their kittens. (we often help facilitate the rescue of Momma cats with kittens, but lack the space for them. So unless we can find another rescue or foster, we can not take them in.)
These are simple, but a few of the benefits this upgrade will provide us.
Today, we are asking for your help. This is by far the most substantial fundraising effort we have ever attempted. You, our supporters, have continued to be the backbone of our organization, and because of your support, we have collectively been able to save the lives of 500 animals in 2 years. Now with your help, we intend to build on and increase our reach beyond what we have ever thought was possible. These cat condos will directly contribute to saving even more lives and providing safe places for cats with nowhere else to go. Please consider a donation of any kind because every dollar goes such a long way. Moreover, if you can don't donate, please share on your social media, text a link to friends; anything you can do does make a difference.
Any individual or Company making donations of $500 or more will have the opportunity to have one of the eight condo bays inscribed with a dedication — email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Thank you on behalf of all of our feline friends,
