Giving Tuesday is a global force for good. Through the power of social media and word-of-mouth collaboration, millions across the world take this day, and time of year altogether, to align themselves with an organization looking to change the world for the better. We at Learn for Life Kenya have joined this movement, and are once again taking part in the Giving Tuesday tradition.
In the past, Giving Tuesday has been a catalyst to help us launch enterprises that are now key to Learn for Life Kenya’s success; this year, we hope to further expand our potential to change lives for Kenya's next generation of leaders.
DONATIONS DO MATTER
Last year, so many offered their support for our Social Enterprises, a vital tool in our journey to teaching young Kenyan students transferable skills in Business, Entrepreneurship, Farming, Culinary Arts, and so much more.
This year, we are using Giving Tuesday to rally support for the completion of the plumbing work at the Vocational Training Center, a building project currently underway in Nyeri County, Kenya. In collaboration with the local Tumaini Children's Ministry. Learn for Life Kenya has embarked on a goal to complete this multi-story building that will eventually serve as the area's central hub of learning and vocational training for Kenyan youth. Currently, $3750 is all we need to complete the plumbing work, and move the building one step closer to completion!
The area's 70% youth unemployment rate, high cost of technical education, and Tumaini’s strong desire to prevent the young graduates from returning to their original environment, has compelled Learn for Life Kenya to support the development and implementation of the Tumaini Vocational Center. As the project nears completion, we are looking for support from our friends and followers to complete one of the penultimate construction phases, which includes electrical and plumbing work on the building.
EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS
As can be the case with many crowd-sourced giving opportunities, one might wonder if their small donation can have an impact on a project of this magnitude. At Learn for Life Kenya, the Vocational Traning Center project has truly been funded in a "brick by brick" way; we have spent many years working to fundraise small chunks of the project at a time, allowing many to play a small role in the building's completion. By attacking the project in this way, we feel grateful and humbled that thousands of supporters have helped erect the VTC one brick at a time.
