Flights for people to be with their loved one who is in palliative care
Give A Mile has provided more than 767 flights to connect terminally or critically ill patients to their loved ones. Give A Mile started in Canada 8 years ago and is now expanding in the United States.
We have already provided 14 flights since incorporating in the U.S. less than a year ago. Please help our expansion by donating. While we use mostly points and miles to fund travel, we need start-up cash for operations as well as to pay for the cash expenses associated with flights like fees and taxes.
With every flight, there’s a family. Every mile, a memory. The daughter seeking closure with her birth mother. The sister caring for her sibling with dementia. The son whose teacher’s salary can’t quite cover his final trip home. For many, these flights lead to the last memories they’ll make with their loved ones. By donating, you can help give the gift of a final goodbye.
Give A Mile changes lives. Darlene, a recipient along with her twin children, were among the first flights Give A Mile has provided in the United States. Darlene was able to travel to see her mother in a hospice facility.
“My mother is my hero,” Darlene explained. “She has given our family the best opportunity by coming to the United States. She is by far the most selfless person in my life. She has dedicated her life to her kids and now her grandchildren. Despite being oxygen dependent for several years, she adopted my niece. At 70 years old, everyone doubted her but she didn't give up. During a time she should be enjoying her senior years, she raised an 8-year-old girl. My mother kept her health history personal and never complained about being weary or sick. She was recently diagnosed with heart failure a month ago and now Stage 4 kidney failure. We are firm believers of God, and we know tomorrow is not promised.”
Founded in 2013, Give A Mile is a group of dedicated volunteers who strongly believe in the power of friends and family for people in palliative or critical care. We invite you to learn more about our work at giveamile.org. Thank you for helping us give the gift of a final goodbye.
