It used to be that Giving Tuesday was held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. COVID-19 has upended so much since it became a pandemic that it is urgent to give now on Tuesday, May 5. The day has been christened Giving Tuesday Now!
Allow me to get right to the point: if you can, please donate now to HAUP's COVID-19 fund.
HAUP is a multi-service community-based organization that serves primarily Caribbean immigrants in New York City. HAUP was founded 45 years ago in response to similar crises affecting Haitian immigrants nationally and in New York in particular. Through thick and thin it delivered and it is now one of the largest Haitian-led community-based institutions with offices in Brooklyn and Queens.
HAUP provides immigration legal assistance and guidance, family support services, domestic violence prevention aid, adult literacy and English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) instructions. It manages UPK, Pre-K and Middle School afterschool programs. HAUP champions the welfare of Caribbean immigrants, and speaks to the needs of Haitian immigrants in particular.
The photo chosen for our campaign illustrates our firmly rooted commitment to stand tall while serving our community, yet reaching out through the branches for your support as we aim to bring hope, and not despair to our people.
Here's what we aim to do with the fund: provide cash assistance via a food voucher, or cash card to the most vulnerable in our community: the essential workers furloughed, laid off or unemployed who can't get access to any of the temporary remedies adopted by the federal, state and city governments, for example the stimulus checks or unemployment benefits. Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 by May 5.
Accordingly, we urge you to give now $25, $50, $100 or more. No amount is too small. Should you be in a position to offer a matching funds challenge of $1,000 or more, let HAUP's Executive Director, Elsie Saint-Louis, know immediately via email at email@example.com.
New York City is on lockdown and will remain so at least through May 15. In accordance with measures adopted by State and city authorities our offices are closed. Although visiting us is not possible at this time, many of our staff are working remotely to provide support and guidance as needed to ensure the welfare of our clients.
Please visit HAUP's social media pages for updates.
Thank you in advance for your generous donation.
Elsie Saint-Louis, Executive Director firstname.lastname@example.org
