San Francisco School of Needlework and Design (SNAD), is a nonprofit hand embroidery school on a mission to preserve and advance the art of hand embroidery–a globally practiced craft.
As we gear up for a new year packed with exciting plans to connect lovers and practitioners of the needlearts, your valuable support allows for the expansion of our outreach programming––together, we can build an inclusive, community-based program, venture off-site, and reach more people. Traditional crafts are a powerful tool for connection to ourselves and others––a medium through which we can build connection with strangers, make new friendships, and support each other artistically and personally. Together, we have the power to connect needle artists around the world, defining an age of modern needlearts.
Since last #GivingTuesday, we have held 62 free Stitch-in workshops, 11 Lunch & Learn lectures featuring local artists and needlework experts, and connected with over 500 people from more than 20 countries through our Stitch-at-Home Challenges.
Expanding our stitching community this past year, we’ve visited and held stitching activities for children at eight Bay Area library branches, dazzled the Exploratorium Science Museum by night, engaged neighborhoods at a Sunday Streets festival, supported an underserved community with Creativity Explored, wowed them at Burning Man, participated in Direct Impact Marketplace, and shared a fantastic collaboration with the Contemporary Jewish Museum, expanding our classroom across the Bay Area and beyond!
This year, we’re excited to team up with you, weaving a global community of needlearts lovers, and building a powerful program of accessible craft education. On this critical day for nonprofits around the world, we ask for you to join us in raising $10,000. Together, we will bring experienced and brand new needleworkers together from across the planet to access educational resources, building a creative and supportive network. Every little bit adds up. Gifts big and small all have an impact.
