Reel Start is a non-profit dedicated to educating, inspiring, and empowering youth from underrepresented communities to change their world through film.
New voices and the stories they tell are vital to social progress, and to film as an art form. But too often, they’ve struggled to be heard. Help us give them a platform. We’re creating a path from the classroom to the film industry, so that ultimately, movies can become more diverse, socially engaged, and relevant to the world we live in.
During their time in the program, our students learn about the many elements that go into creating a film. They attend hands-on workshops, visit major film and television sets, and meet with A-list guest speakers. It culminates with the production of their own short film, which focuses on a social issue that they’re personally affected by.
Reel Start is operating as a project of Players Philanthropy Fund, a Maryland charitable trust recognized by IRS as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Federal Tax ID: 27-6601178).
