Helping Unite Giving Souls
To support underprivileged children with the resources to share a lifelong love for learning, reading and creativity.
At Give More HUGS we:
Train middle schoool, high school and college students to develop their leadership and impact underprivileged children through our Ambassador Program. We train and mentor students to go out into their community and hold events to support the kids in Title I schools. The training is ongoing and supportive. They learn how to network, how to coordinate an event, how to solicit volunteers, and many other things to develop their leadership skills. We are developing the next generation of compassionate leaders.
Give books to kids at events created by our Ambassadors. We give them a book of their own to keep that includes a handwritten inspirational message from volunteer who cares about their personal and academic development. We are ensuring children have access to books to promote early literacy and a lifelong love for reading.
Give backpacks to kids at events created by our Ambassadors. We give them a backpack full of new school supplies to start the school year off right and help them continue the school year with the basic resources they need to be successful. We are rallying communities together to help students have the supplies they need for their educational journey!
Give More HUGS was founded seven years ago by Chris McGilvery while his wife, Taryn, was attending medical school on the island of Dominica. He saw students in poverty that needed help and he was not content with just standing by. He started Give More HUGS (Helping. Unite. Giving Souls) to help. That movement expanded to the US when he and Taryn returned home. Our students for students model has inspired students across Texas, several other states and Dominica to raise awareness and support for underprivileged students. Managed entirely by volunteers, Give More HUGS now operates in Texas, Dominica and several other states. Chris continues to inspire us to do more and, with your help, we can!
We are so excited to have been invited to participate in the USA TODAY A Community Thrives. Each of our ambassadors and volunteers are inspirational. The work we do is possible because of supporters like you. Together, we are changing lives, one student at a time.
Your $20 donation will purchase one backpack filled with supplies, your $50 donation will purchase 25 new books! Your donation allows us to compete in several weekly incentive contests including most dollars donated or highest number of donations in a given week. So, any donation, can help us raise even more funds for our effort.
If we reach our goal and raise $3,000 during the four-week campaign, we will also be in the running for project grants and operational grants that would catapult Give More HUGS to the next level and help thousands of kids through our various outreach programs.
