Dear friend of the arts,
Have you been to William King Museum of Art lately? Have you read about our exciting plans for the new Center for Studio Art & Education? …or the new ground-level east entrance into the main museum and upgrades to driveways, parking areas and the front-campus sculpture garden?
If you haven’t visited recently, please put a visit to the museum on your holiday list of places to go. The new permanent gallery for the Cultural Heritage Collection just debuted, and Dressed by Design opened recently in time for the holidays. A sparkling exhibition of haute couture fashion, it features the work of international designers, Giorgio Armani, Alexander McQueen, and Ralph Lauren. Continuing exhibits are the stunning large wood sculptures of Clintwood’s Fred Carter, the biennial From These Hills featuring the latest works by regional artists, and a small intimate collection of handmade figures representing Mormon culture by Roanoke artist, Paige Turner.
Yes, lots going on! Our lively tradition of changing exhibitions underscores our tagline, Never the Same Museum, and makes us a place to enjoy often. Did you know that most of our exhibitions are original and many, like those mentioned above, include art from our own region? Did you know that our award-winning VanGogh Outreach program, which has served second grades throughout more than twelve school districts for 20 years, is set to double in size over the next few years?
Your annual support goes a very long way in making it possible to continue to bring to fruition top-quality exhibitions and deep educational service to our region and, importantly, to grow. Won’t you put us on your year-end giving list? All gifts to the Annual Fund are 100% tax deductible. Thank you, sincerely, from all of us at WKMA.
Happy Holidays,
Betsy White
