"We are a low-income family and are excluded from many athletic opportunities. I want my girls to be physically active. I want them to learn team-building. At Girls on the Run of WNC, we weren't excluded because of finances. My girls loved the challenge. They loved the weekly meetings. They loved the relationships. I loved seeing my girls accomplish something I wish I could. I loved seeing them strengthen their bodies and build friendships." - Mother of 2 Girls on the Run of Western North Carolina Participants
Since 2002, Girls on the Run of Western North Carolina, which has a Silver Star Transparency Seal from GuideStar, has served more than 15,000 girls across a 14-county region, teaching positive self-talk, conflict resolution skills, teamwork, and the power of community service, all creatively paired with physical activity. We train coach-mentors in a tested curriculum, offer snacks at Title I program sites, and provide shoes and athletic wear as needed. We covered more than $61000 in program fees last year but, more than ever, we need your help to continue our work.
54% of our participants are from low-income families and 82% of our sites are Title I schools
Covid-19 ended our spring 2020 season but we donated snacks and refunded fees to families as needed. We continued to provide digital and written content, as well as translated materials. Our bottom line suffered but we don’t want our girls to miss programming when they most need support.
Won’t you support girls to become the CEOS of their own life journeys? Your donation of any amount will help more girls learn that they belong and they are resilient. One-third of funds raised will be used to give GOTR At Home kits to girls in need this fall. The other two-thirds will be used in our larger spring 2021 season to support girls across the region.
We will not let girls across the Blue Ridge Mountains down but we need you to keep that promise. Together, we will stand with girls until they lead us. Thank you for your partnership.
