2020 GOTRC Chicago Marathon

Update
: This 2020, the marathon has announced The Bank of America Chicago Marathon Virtual Experience that will be held October 5th-October 11th, 2020. Although 2020 has turned out very different than what we had expected, this virtual experience will serve to celebrate all of our SoleMates accomplishments and bring the community together, even if we can't be together in person! The virtual experience is comprised of a variety of distances that everyone can participate in, with SoleMates having the opportunity to choose to run the Marathon distance during race week.

Our SoleMates play a critical role in ensuring that every girl can access Girls on the Run-Chicago's life-changing program regardless of her financial circumstance. Last year, more than 280 SoleMates ran the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in support of the next generation of girls, funding more than 1,900 program scholarships for Girls on the Run–Chicago.

Story

Girls on the Run-Chicago is a non-profit after-school program with a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. The innovative program combines training for a non-competitive 5k (3.1 miles) running event with life skills lessons that build positive physical and social-emotional health in participants. Since 1999, Girls on the Run-Chicago has served more than 80,000 girls across Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

85% of the girls in our program receive financial assistance to participate. All funds raised by the Girls on the Run-Chicago SoleMates Team go to underwrite the organization's generous financial assistance so that all girls can take part in this life-changing programming!

COVID-19 Update: This Fall 2020 season, GOTRC has created a virtual programming option in order to support the needs of our community. Virtual programming includes physical activity and social-emotional learning, providing girls with an opportunity to build meaningful connections with their peers and caring adult role models. Each virtual lesson has two components—the virtual team session (~40 minutes) and independent activities (~ 20 minutes).
