Who would have known that the Daisy Girl Scout above would be representing the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts in the Boston Marathon 17 years later? Well... a lot has happened between then and now! I was lucky enough to get into (and graduate from) my dream school, Boston University, and I am still lucky to be continuing at BU for my doctorate in physical therapy.
When I came to Boston, I turned to running as my way to learn the city. I have ran under the "Boston Strong" overpass and past the finish line on Boylston Street countless times. I always said to myself, I'll run this for real one day... and I am happy to say, April 15th, 2019 will be that day!
During my undergrad years at BU, I joined Kappa Delta, whose national philanthropy is the Girl Scouts. During my time in Kappa Delta, I was able to spend a lot of time with local Girl Scout troops doing recyclable fashion shows promoting self-esteem (while dressed in newspapers!), as well as cookie sales and BU campus tours.
Your donation will directly support the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts’ FaB Factor program. These out-of-school classes help girls learn how to live healthy lifestyles, gain real world skills like finance and business, and explore their interests in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). This program was developed specifically for girls from under-resourced communities who are in need of positive adult role models to promote self-esteem, leadership, and compassion.
I wouldn't be where I am today if I wasn't surrounded by positive role models throughout my life. Girl Scouts, Kappa Delta, my mom, older sister, and the plenty of other confident, strong women in my life have given me the confidence and determination to chase my dreams... including PT school... and running the Boston Marathon.
I hope you consider donating toward this program, as all girls deserve to have positive role models and encouragement in their lives! Your donation will directly impact girls in our community to become our next leaders. I’m so excited to #RunLikeAGirlScout !
