Hey Friends. Let me get right to it: I am running my FIRST MARATHON EVER this fall, the Hartford Marathon on October 12, 2019. I have been training hard, and now I have an ask from you, my friends, colleagues, neighbors and family.
Those of you who know me well, know that the biggest support and all-around constant in my life since I was fifteen year old is my wife, Julianne. However, did you know that an important part of Julianne becoming the strong, independent, wonderful woman that she is today was her membership in the Girl Scouts of Connecticut? Julianne was a scout from the time she was in first grade. She was awarded a Future Women of Distinction honor in 2004, and achieved her Gold Award the same year, the highest honor in the Scouts. To achieve this award, Julianne developed and implemented a program called "Dance Yourself Young Again," a light dance program for seniors in the Milford community.
The perseverance, drive to succeed, teamwork mentality, problem-solving abilities and comradery that Julianne developed through the Scouts put her on the path to the person she is today. Julianne and her troopmates still sneak in a potluck meal or short camping outing whenever the opportunity presents itself. We will not hesitate to get our two-year-old daughter, Saoirse, into a Troop as soon as they're ready for her (and her vivacious spirit).
Girl Scouts prepares girls for a lifetime of leadership, success and adventure. They, like Julianne, are bold, go-getters. This year, and for my first Marathon EVER, I am going to #RaceForGSGold to support Gold Award project mini grants and college scholarships for Gold Award Girl Scouts.
Help me to help the Girl Scouts get your gold, by donating to this campaign today.
