Hello! My name is Gina and I’m excited and grateful to be running the New York City Marathon for Team Brave Like Gabe this November.
Those of you who don’t know, Gabriele Grunewald, professional runner for Brooks Running and rare cancer advocate, founded Brave Like Gabe Foundation to inspire people to stories of being brave through their own struggles while also helping to find better and more effective treatments for rare cancers.
She has inspired me and others to connect and do the same, and to make a difference in the cancer community.
Gabriele survived multiple bouts with cancer. Initially diagnosed with a rare salivary gland cancer, adenoid cystic carcinoma, in 2009, and thyroid cancer in 2010. Throughout her cancer journey, Gabriele continued to compete and run professionally.
Gabe passed away on June 11, 2019, but her legacy continues with all those sharing #mybravestory, raising funds for rare cancer research, and choosing to keep running on hope. (... the linked video will give you just a small glimpse into Gabriele's life).
This is personal for me as cancer has touched my life and those closest to me. I’ve lost family and friends and will always continue to support friends and family who are still fighting the fight or celebrate with them when they are in remission. Gabe’s story isn’t about cancer … I believe it was much more. It was her way of showing the world and herself how to deal with the struggle, any struggle, day in and day out, while living her best life. I am fortunate to run for such a wonderful charity!
I've committed to raising $3,000.00, but my goal is to raise $5,000.00 by November 1, 2020. I will share my training and would sincerely appreciate any support to this wonderful foundation.
I would be honored if you’d join me in this campaign as I train and raise funds for such a wonderful cause!
“I hope people see that you can still make something beautiful and powerful out of a bad situation.”
