"When I was diagnosed I felt really weird. I felt different. But when I came here, I felt like I was part of something and I wasn't just by myself."
Hope is a strange word to associate with cancer. However, as soon as you walk through Gilda's iconic red door, immediately you know there’s something different here. Three out of every four Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, each one uniquely affected, their own journey becoming deeply personal and guarded. Finding someone they genuinely connect with, someone who truly understands and is intimately familiar with their experience, is invaluable.
"Being in a group of people that are, not the exact same, but in the same place you are... there's nothing like being able to relate. That is the biggest thing."
Founded in Nashville in 1998 as a Cancer Support Community affiliate, Gilda's Club Middle Tennessee's mission is to ensure those impacted by cancer (all genders, races, ages, and cancer types) are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community. Our one-of-a-kind cancer support program is evidence-based and makes a difference in the lives of thousands every year. GCMTN offers emotional support counseling, healthy lifestyle coaching, financial and educational workshops, and creative arts classes, providing a spectrum of opportunity for all people touched by cancer to connect with and create a supportive community - completely FREE of charge. Research shows significant benefits of psychosocial support as a complement to quality medical care: 100% of members say they feel more connected to others; 88.5% feel more understood and better able to manage stress; 87% gained tools to better manage treatment; and 92% report and improved quality of life, all due to GCMTN participation.
Your gift to GCMTN makes these life changing programs possible. Together we can ensure that no one in Middle Tenneessee with a cancer diagnosis has to face it alone.
