Today would've been Ty Louis Campbell's 13th birthday. Ty passed away just days after his 5th birthday from a cancerous brain tumor.
Ty smiled in spite of having 27 surgical procedures over the course of 2 ½ years. Ty smiled in spite of 11 chemotherapy cycles and radiation to the brain (twice). Ty smiled in spite of losing his ability to walk. Ty smiled in spite of spending more nights in a hospital bed than at home. Ty smiled in spite of watching his little brother go to his favorite school when he no longer could. Ty smiled in spite of steroids that made him feel “angry.” Ty smiled in spite of itchy skin, belly tube feedings, lack of taste, numbing sensations, debilitating headaches, disorientation, neuro-checks, countless needles, bandage changes and shut taps. Ty lost his ability to speak and still, he smiled. That’s why he was called SuperTy.
My good friend and business partner Lou and his wife Cindy started the Ty Louis Campbell Foundation to fund life-saving research for kids with cancer so they can increase survival rates and decrease life-threatening side effects. Let’s do it to save the next Ty Louis Campbell from the same outcomes.
I look forward to getting more involved with the foundation and inviting all of you to some of the amazing events they had to cancel this year, but will be back on the calendar for next year: TLC's Annual Gala (Greenwich Hyatt, March 6, 2021) and the Annual Mess Fest (Kiwi Country Day Camp, date TBD
