We are working towards our goal to be able to restore our stained glass windows at the Gerlaw Christian Church to their original beauty. In 1894, the congregation outgrew it's humble beginnings and a new church was constructed at it's current location in Gerlaw, Illinois. At that time, the stained glass windows were installed at a cost of $307. The windows were designed using symbols to tell stories from the Bible starting with the story of Creation when God said "Let There Be Light!" to the end when He declared "I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end." Jesus' life, the Ten Commandments, and the dove carrying the olive branch from the story of Noah are just a few of the symbols that can be seen in these beautiful stained glass windows. Through this campaign we hope to raise the remaining funds necerssary to restore and preserve these heirlooms so they can continue to tell these stories.
*Edited to add some 'work in progress' pictures! They are almost done!!
The restoration work is being done by Glass Heritage out of Davenport, Iowa.
