Due to COVID-19, Our Lady of Good Counsel Camp (GCC) had to close its doors for the 2020 summer season. This was the first time we have not operated a summer program in 73 years. It was a difficult decision but the only true way we could ensure the safety of our campers, staff and families. We knew this decision would have serious consequences, but the safety of our GCC Family comes first.
GCC is now looking at an estimated loss of $200,000. This loss severely reduces our long term security as well as limits opportunity for capital improvement and program development. It also restricts the salaries we can offer our staff. In time (maybe several years) we will recover, but any help our GCC Family can spare would go a long way to ease this burden.
We thank all individuals who have already contributed, especially those who chose to donate their registration fees for summer 2020. For all those now considering to donate, we are extremely grateful for your generosity. Thank you! May God continue to bless you and your families.
It should be noted that we were able to have some fun this summer. Our amazing staff volunteered their time to pack 298 care packages at camp. That's one package for each camper that was registered for this summer. If the camper lived in Florda, the package was personally delivered right to their doorstep by one of our counselors. It was a fun challenge for our staff and our way of letting our campers know how much we care.
We thank our alumni association for sponsoring the care packages and gathering the materials for us. If there are any former campers or counselors that would like to help support us in the future, please consider joining the alumni association. To do so, visit https://ologccaa.wildapricot.org/. Annual memberships are just $35.
