The NICU at GBMC helps about 400 babies each year that are born too small, too sick or too soon. The team of doctors and nurses work around the clock to help these babies, and also provide comfort to the parents and family members.
In 2018, GBMC opened a brand new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, featuring 10 single rooms and 3 doubles, for multiples. The new unit was designed with patients and family in mind. Each room has a Kangaroo Chair for a parent to sleep in. The chairs also are designed to promote breastfeeding and skin to skin contact, both vital for infant development. The new space is quiet, with soft lighting and features 3 different zones: nurse, patient and family. This allows the family to have privacy while the nursing team is able to continue their charting and paperwork.
The Father's Day 5K and 1-Mile fun walk is now in its 31st year. It is a great activity to kick off your Father's Day celebration with the family.
